Roman has been at every Donati event since Valentine’s Day, quiet and patient, preparing himself for her since he watched her hand a champagne glass to an empty seat at Bianca’s wedding. He is the last contract: Allegra’s brother, the man who has poured coffee in her office for two years, the one her father will die without seeing — but whose blessing he spends his last days giving.

The recovery arc of the series. Roman doesn’t let Vita perform; he sits on the bathroom floor while she holds the scissors over her own hair and loves her through silence until she finds her own voice. Sal Donati dies on December 23 with his wife’s name in his mouth, and on Christmas Eve the matchmaker, Allegra Vasari, is finally matched.
