FOR READERS OF THE ARTICLE

Here because of the article?

I’m Coral Hart, founder of PlotProse. The article was about how I write, and I teach other authors how to do it. If you read a headline about my books, this page shows you the work behind it, and the one place to start if you want to learn it.

A live class with me. Prices are in US dollars (USD).

What I teach

The story comes first. Then the tools.

Before I draft a word, I decide what story I’m telling. I choose the reader promise, the characters, the conflict, and the direction of the plot. Then I test the options and find the weak spots. I decide what stays.

AFP described the process in its profile of my writing process. What I teach is the same thing in order: the story, the drafting, the editing, and the publishing and marketing that sell the book.

Behind the Headline

Where the first draft goes wrong, and what I do about it

The first draft is never right first time. The full demonstration, on a story of your own, is the class below. These are three real examples, in my own words, taken word for word from recordings of my classes and a product demo. The options come easily. I make the decisions.

The chapter that runs away

What goes wrong

“Claude will give you a 17,000-word chapter if you don't give him the right guardrails.”

What I do

“don't use purple prose. Don't use melodramatic language. Do not overdo your descriptors.”

Coral, Book Boot Camp 1, March 2026

The dialogue that goes flat

What I do

“If I find dialogue is flat, I'll take the whole chapter out and I'll put it into chat, dialogue section by dialogue section, and say, hey, fix the dialogue.”

Coral, Book Boot Camp 1, March 2026

The story that contradicts itself

What goes wrong

“it is going to make continuity mistakes.”

What I do

“just think of it as like a junior ghostwriter, and you're going to have to fix those kind of things.”

What’s the Plot? Build your story seed, live

This is the first stage of how I work, live, on your own story. In class I show you how I build a story brief that gives you something solid to write from. You use your own idea, or start with a few tropes, and follow along.

  • Define the romance promise and the pressure that drives your story
  • Turn the brief into several story seed options
  • Choose and rewrite the strongest option
  • Test five turning points for weak stakes and missing character choices

You leave with a two-sentence story seed, five turning points, and a clearer sense of how I direct a story. A student workbook is included.

Six live sessions to choose from, 29 Oct – 13 Nov 2026; you pick your session, and see its time, after you book. Bring access to an AI chat tool if you’d like to follow along with your own story.

Launchpad

This is where I show exactly how I do it all, step by step. Five weeks with me, about 4 live hours a week, and I look at your own plan and draft. $800.
