Five mountain men. Five women who walk up the wrong road at the right time. One Oregon logging lodge — and the dead patriarch whose last handshake is holding it all together.
The Series
Timber Ridge sits in a clearing in the Cascades east of Pinecrest, Oregon — eighty-six miles of skid road, a long-porched lodge built by John “Big John” Halverson in 1985, and a crew of five hard men who have been running the place on grief and a handshake since Big John died in September. The owner’s son is in Portland, the lodge is in financial trouble nobody is talking about, and the only woman in the kitchen on a given morning is the one each of these men is, in fact, about to spend the rest of his life with.
Five distinct alphas, five competent women in their own domains, five HEAs — marriage by the end of every book and a baby on the page or in the body by the close. Threaded through all five: Big John’s ghost — his photograph on the mantel, his handshake, his unfinished business — binding the books into one arc. The lodge holds. The mountain stays in the family.
Five mountain-man short reads. Five guaranteed HEAs. One lodge, one ghost, one handshake holding the mountain.

The Five Books
Book One — Snowed In With the Foreman (Nell & Holt)
“She drove up the mountain for a three-day audit. He hasn’t been able to take his eyes off her since she sat in the truck for three seconds with her hands on the wheel, looking back at him through a windshield.”

Snowed In With the Foreman · Holt & Nell
NELL HAYES, twenty-six, drives up to Timber Ridge in November to audit the books for a logging company whose founder died in September and whose foreman is running the place alone. She arrives in dress flats in a storm.
HOLT CALLOWAY, forty-one, has been a man at this lodge for eighteen years — and the moment her truck stops rolling, the thought goes through him before he can stop it: mine. He puts her hands on the fire before he is her foreman, her host, or her audit liaison. The pass closes by dusk.

Stranded for the Climber · Beau & June
JUNE MERCER, twenty-four, an OSU PhD candidate in forest ecology, wakes at three in the morning to her field notebook floating off the table. By three-fifteen she is wading thigh-deep through a flooded BLM lot with two seasons of data in an ammo can.
BEAU MACKLIN, thirty-eight, the Halverson crew’s lead climber, has been doing his BLM run on Fridays for seven years because Big John told him to, and because there is a research cabin half a mile down the hill. He finds her on the gravel at three thirty. He puts her in his truck. He has not had a woman in this cabin in nine years — since a climbing accident in Humboldt County killed his best friend.

Book Three — Trapped With the Bull (Daisy & Sully)
“She walked into his kitchen at ten forty-five on a Tuesday in July with flour on her sleeve. He dropped the wrench he’d been cleaning for an hour. The crew calls him Bull. The fire took the south road by midnight.”

Trapped With the Bull · Sully & Daisy
DAISY TULLY, twenty-five, signs on as Timber Ridge’s summer cook in July. She walks into the lodge kitchen at ten forty-five on a Tuesday with flour on her sleeve and four months of grief in her back pocket.
SULLY BRENNAN — thirty-nine, heavy operator, six foot five, the man the crew has called Bull since his second day twelve years ago — looks up from a cast-iron wrench and the thought goes through him: there she is. Not mine. A recognition. He has been scared of becoming his father, a Halverson Co. sawyer who died at his own kitchen table in 1999. They have twenty-one days of him walking her from the lodge to the cook’s quarters every night because of a cougar that does not exist.

One Bed With the Sawyer · Wade & Wren
WREN DONOVAN, twenty-five, an ODFW field biologist, has been on the trace of a collared gray wolf since Monday. At seven oh four on Thursday the wolf crosses onto Halverson Co. timber and Wren follows under the cooperative agreement’s emergency-entry clause.
WADE PETERSEN, thirty-six, the crew’s sawyer and security lead — a former Marine with a German Shepherd named Dutch washed out of Camp Pendleton — comes up the trail with sawdust on his cuff. He says her trespass is granted. His dog leaves his heel and sits at her left boot like the heel has been hers for five years. He drives her to his cabin at dusk because rifle season started Tuesday and the temperature is dropping seven degrees an hour. One bed.

Snowed In With the Boss · Briggs & Polly
POLLY REILLY, twenty-three, has been the Pinecrest diner-owner’s daughter all her life and the lodge’s caretaker through the slow months. On Sunday December twenty-first she drives up alone to ready the lodge for the lawyer arriving Tuesday.
BRIGGS HALVERSON, thirty-eight, CEO of a Portland investment firm, walks through the front door at four forty-one with sale documents on the seat of the SUV. He sees the Halverson Co. patch on Polly’s left shoulder before he sees her face. The patch was her late father’s. The storm closes the pass by dusk. By Tuesday morning the sale folder is in the great-room fire.
