The Bellwether Printshop Mysteries: the three covers of the pack

The concept

At thirty-nine, Lottie Fenwick trades impossible production deadlines for the comforting clatter of a letterpress in Bellwether. Her shop, The Paper Lantern, prints the village’s celebrations, campaigns and good intentions. It also puts her in the path of everyone with something to announce—or conceal. Each mystery begins with an ordinary printed object whose small inconsistency opens a much larger question.

The Paper LanternA working letterpress and stationery shop where customers linger over sample books, Peg commandeers the spare stool, and Crumpet the ginger cat sleeps beside the warm press. Orders, proofs and offcuts create natural encounters and tangible clues.
BellwetherA riverside village whose fête committee, library and crowded noticeboard keep everybody connected. Familiar rituals become pressure points when an accusation can cost someone their business or their place in the community.
Intended readershipFor adult cozy readers who enjoy a practical amateur sleuth, a bustling community and clues they can piece together alongside the heroine.
Reader promiseA complete, fair-play village mystery in every book, recurring friendships and a gentle romantic thread. The tension comes from threatened livelihoods, damaged trust and carefully kept secrets.
Tone & contentWarm, observant and lightly comic. Closed-door romance; no explicit sex or graphic violence. The third book includes an off-page murder. The shop cat stays safe.

The people behind the promise

Lottie Fenwick • 39Printer and reluctant investigator. Generous to a fault, she is learning that being useful is not the same as being responsible for everyone.
Dev Ellis • 41The librarian with a dry sense of humour, an exact memory for local records and little patience for a convenient historical claim.
Peg Hollis • 67Fundraising powerhouse and enthusiastic gossip. Her network opens doors, but her confidence occasionally outruns her evidence.
Bram Fielding • 42A gardener who brings cut flowers and useful perspective. His slow courtship offers Lottie company without another person to manage.
DS Rosa Vale • 44A capable investigator who welcomes verifiable information. Her respect for Lottie grows as the printer turns small observations into useful evidence.

Series progression

  1. 01 / BelongingLottie defends her shop’s reputation and earns her place in Bellwether.
  2. 02 / BoundariesShe learns that loyalty does not require protecting a friend from difficult facts.
  3. 03 / TrustShe shares responsibility, accepts help and chooses a life beyond being indispensable.

The three books

The direction is set. The books are written after you order.

The Raffle Nobody Won

Two winning tickets. One missing campervan. A printer with a reputation to save.

Lottie Fenwick promised to print a few hundred raffle tickets. She did not promise to explain why two people hold the winning number—or why the cream-and-green campervan they have both won has disappeared.

With the village hall fundraiser in chaos, angry donors are pointing at The Paper Lantern. Lottie knows the second ticket did not come from her numbered print run. Proving it means following a trail through a committee treasurer’s tidy accounts, a sponsor’s changing story and a late-night collection nobody admits authorising.

The more questions she asks, the less the missing campervan looks like the whole prize. Someone has used Bellwether’s generosity to hide an expensive secret, and they are happy to leave her holding the blame. Before the committee’s repayment deadline closes her shop, Lottie must work out who planned a raffle nobody was supposed to win.

Story focusA theft-and-fraud mystery with an accessible paper trail and a firm resolution.
Place in the seriesLottie’s instinct to help everyone is tested when the village’s goodwill turns against her. Asking for help becomes her first real act of belonging.

The Postcard That Arrived Twice

The picture is the same. The messages cannot both be true.

The first postcard says Ruth is delighted to sell her share of Bellwether’s orchard. The second says she would never agree. Both bear her signature. Both arrive while she is away on a walking holiday. Neither offers a telephone number anyone can reach.

Asked to reproduce the village’s old postcard collection, Lottie Fenwick recognises something peculiar in the newer card: a tiny flaw that belongs to an earlier print run. Then the orchard trust’s original consent papers vanish from a locked cabinet, and her friend Peg is accused of taking them.

Between a public sale meeting, a suddenly helpful property agent and residents with very different memories of Ruth, Lottie has plenty of stories to sort. She needs the woman behind the handwriting—and the truth behind the missing papers—before a carefully manufactured agreement turns a shared patch of green into somebody else’s profit.

Story focusA forgery and missing-document case; the absent resident is found safe.
Place in the seriesProtecting Peg means checking her story as rigorously as anyone else’s. Friendship survives honesty, while blind loyalty could cost the village its orchard.

A Fatal Footnote at the Fete

The village has printed its history. Someone wants a correction buried.

Lottie Fenwick has printed five hundred copies of Bellwether’s new history guide, tied the bunting and finally agreed to an evening out with Bram. Then the guide’s author is found dead behind the fête marquee, and the celebration becomes a crime scene.

Hours earlier, the historian had insisted on changing a footnote. Now the revised proof has vanished, a prominent donor is demanding that every copy be destroyed, and the village committee would prefer Lottie to stop asking what was so dangerous about a date.

Working through old editions and present-day grudges, Lottie finds a discrepancy that reaches beyond family pride into the ownership of a much-loved public building. Someone has spent years making a lie look respectable. With another piece of evidence about to disappear, she must bring the right details to DS Vale before the village preserves the wrong version of its past.

Story focusAn off-page murder, a historical paper trail and a fully resolved present-day case.
Place in the seriesLottie trusts her friends and the police with different parts of the problem. The trilogy ends with a secure community and a hopeful romantic beginning.

The promise beyond book one

Reasons to keep reading

  • An everyday printed object starts every case.
  • A tactile shop, an appealing cat and a village readers can revisit.
  • Distinct crimes linked by one heroine’s eye for detail.

A world with room to grow

Later mysteries could grow from a misprinted walking map, disputed wedding invitations or a theatre programme with an unexplained credit. New clients bring new cases while the shop and village remain the emotional home.
