The False Alarm Files

The warning went out. That does not mean everyone heard it.

A former emergency dispatcher audits the messages meant to keep people safe—and finds that a missing warning, a false shelter record and a premature all-clear can each conceal a crime.

The False Alarm Files: the three covers of the pack

The concept

Iris Hadley knows the difference between a message being sent and a person being reached. Now an emergency communications contractor, she investigates failures that official performance reports insist never happened. Each novel pairs an immediate public-safety crisis with a contained criminal investigation, while a longer thread exposes the incentives that made the truth inconvenient.

Harcourt CountyA fictional region of flood-prone streets, wooded outskirts and ageing civic buildings. Its communications network depends on contractors, public employees and local knowledge that do not always agree.
The Gap Between Record And RealityDelivery reports, shelter registers and archived announcements provide concrete clues. The suspense comes from people protecting reputations, contracts or evidence while a live emergency makes every delay costly.
Intended readershipFor adult thriller readers who enjoy procedural detail, ordinary systems under pressure and a capable female lead facing consequences she cannot solve alone.
Reader promiseA complete central investigation in every book, credible institutional resistance and urgent human stakes. Iris combines records, interviews and professional relationships while trained emergency responders lead the rescue efforts.
Tone & contentTense, grounded and fast-moving. Adult suspense involving missing people, corruption, disaster peril and some on-page violence without lingering gore. The series offers accountability and survival rather than an endlessly expanding conspiracy.

The people behind the promise

Iris Hadley • 34Former dispatcher, now a communications auditor. Precise and persistent, she struggles to trust a team after an earlier incident taught her how easily institutions isolate the person who raises a concern.
Noah Hadley • 31Her brother, a contract inspector. He understands how a defensible individual shortcut can become a dangerous system when everybody takes it.
Marcus Tenn • 38A local reporter who wants the truth published. His deadline and Iris’s need to verify evidence do not always sit comfortably together.
Evelyn Shaw • 59A retired control-room supervisor. She provides institutional context and blunt counsel, and is willing to question her own part in the county’s past decisions.
DS Amir Lane • 42An investigator responsible for turning suspicious records into a provable criminal case. His partnership with Iris develops through tested information.

Series progression

  1. 01 / NoticeIris proves that a successful report can conceal a deliberate failure.
  2. 02 / VerifyShe learns to build an account from independent witnesses rather than a single authoritative record.
  3. 03 / Be heardHer own credibility becomes the target, and she relies on the team she has built to make the truth public.

The Street Beyond the Sirens

Every street received the flood warning. Except the one that mattered.

The county’s report says the flood warning reached everyone. Iris Hadley is standing in a street full of people who never heard it. By morning, homes are underwater and an engineer scheduled to testify about a major public contract is missing.

Hired to explain the discrepancy, Iris finds a tidy delivery record that cannot be reconciled with the residents’ accounts. Her own earlier recommendation is cited as the reason the street was excluded. Someone wants the failure to look technical, accidental and hers.

With the river still rising, Iris works with emergency crews, a sceptical detective and a reporter who is running out of patience. Each recovered detail narrows the distance between a warning that failed and a witness somebody wanted unreachable. She must establish what happened before the evidence washes away—and before the next official assurance sends more people into danger.

Story focusA missing witness, a falsified delivery account and a live flood response.
Place in the seriesThe engineer’s disappearance and the deliberate omission are resolved. Evidence of wider reporting pressure opens the next investigation without withholding this case’s answer.

The Shelter That Stayed Empty

The register says they arrived. Nobody at the shelter has seen them.

A fast-moving woodland fire pushes families out of Harcourt County’s western villages. The official shelter register lists forty-three arrivals. When Iris Hadley checks the site, its beds are untouched, its volunteer team is waiting and its doors have never opened to a single evacuee.

Most of the missing names belong to residents who found their own way to safety. One belongs to an auditor carrying evidence about the emergency transport contract. Nobody agrees which vehicle she boarded, and the paperwork gives Iris a reassuring answer that changes every time she tests it.

As families search for relatives and exhausted crews prepare another evacuation, Iris follows the journey behind the fabricated numbers. What began as a false claim for payment has given someone a chance to make a person disappear. Finding the diverted passengers is urgent. Discovering who used the confusion may be the only way to bring the auditor home.

Story focusA disappearance concealed by procurement fraud and conflicting evacuation records.
Place in the seriesIris resolves the transport diversion and the auditor’s fate through witnesses and independent records, strengthening a criminal case against the responsible contractor.

The Last All-Clear

The voice telling them to return is hers. She never sent the message.

Iris Hadley knows the voice on the emergency announcement. It is her own, recorded years ago for a training exercise. Now it is telling a flooded district that the danger has passed. It has not.

As residents begin returning toward unsafe homes, Iris’s access is suspended and the records point to an instruction she never gave. In two days she is due to present evidence against the company behind the county’s reassuring performance figures. A public failure bearing her voice could destroy the case.

Iris cannot correct the story by shouting louder than the official channel. She needs local responders to reach the people already moving, and independent proof of who turned an old recording into a current order. With roads closing and trust collapsing, the team she has built becomes her only way to expose the last deception before it claims lives.

Story focusA forged authorisation, an immediate rescue effort and a public reckoning.
Place in the seriesIris’s name is cleared, the responsible actors are exposed and the trilogy’s accountability case closes. Her new role rests on trusted collaboration rather than solitary vigilance.

The promise beyond book one

Reasons to keep reading

  • Three recognisable safety messages become three different crime scenes.
  • A specialist heroine whose expertise makes the clues understandable.
  • Escalation from one omitted street to a crisis of public trust.

A world with room to grow

Later investigations could centre on a disputed transport alert or a critical message wrongly translated for a community. The original trilogy resolves its contractor-accountability arc; a new case would begin with a new failure and new responsible people.

Series overview

An alert marked delivered. A shelter marked occupied. A danger marked over. Iris Hadley has learned to ask what those words leave out. Follow a former dispatcher into three urgent investigations where the official record looks reassuring—and the people it was meant to protect are still in danger.
